MDF and HDF — the difference
MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) is a medium-density fibreboard made from wood fibres bonded under heat and pressure into a uniform, void-free structure. It has a smooth, poreless surface that takes paint, veneer or laminate perfectly, with stable dimensions and excellent machinability. The MDF plant produces MDF in the 700–870 kg/m³ density range, depending on thickness and grade.
HDF (High Density Fibreboard) has a density of 800–1050 kg/m³. Harder, stronger and thinner at equal stiffness, it is the load-bearing core of laminate flooring and is used in thin panels and door skins.
| Parameter | MDF | HDF |
|---|---|---|
| Density, kg/m³ | 700–870 | 800–1050 |
| Surface | Smooth, poreless | Smooth, hard |
| Routing | Excellent | Good |

Where MDF is used
Furniture manufacturing. Fronts, shelves, carcass — MDF is routed, painted and veneered. Stable dimensions suit furniture of any complexity.
Door manufacturing. Door leaves, frames, decorative overlays. MDF doors are the standard for mass construction and developer projects.
Interior finishing. Decorative panels, wall cladding, ceiling elements. Laminated MDF is a ready surface.
Laminate production. HDF is the load-bearing core of laminate flooring. The MDF plant supplies HDF core stock, including for Rezult’s own laminate line in Korosten.
